Fair.xyz: You mentioned being an underground graffiti artist. Can you elaborate on that phase of your career?
Zoow: Absolutely. I started off as a total underground artist, one of the most subversive figures in the graffiti scene. I never aimed to conform or go mainstream. It was about surpassing boundaries and refusing to let anyone stifle my creativity. Every day felt like a battle to outdo myself and assert my presence.
Fair.xyz: Your work embodies the true essence of graffiti. Could you share your perspective on what graffiti means to you as an artist?
Zoow: Graffiti, to me, is all about pushing my name, leaving my mark. It’s the rawest form of expression. Initially, I didn’t perceive graffiti as an art form but rather an outlet for my desire to vandalise and paint everywhere. It was a personal endeavour that gradually transformed into something more profound.
Fair.xyz: What, in your opinion, defines a good graffiti artist?
Zoow: The soul of the artist is what truly makes a good graffiti artist. It’s the passion, the essence infused into each stroke and design. Sadly, graffiti remains misunderstood by the general public. It’s akin to wine; unless you experience it firsthand, you can’t fully comprehend the difference between a remarkable piece and an average one.
Fair.xyz: You’re currently transitioning to contemporary art. Can you elaborate on this process and your perception of it?
Zoow: Yes, it’s a fascinating journey. In my view, graffiti is contemporary art in its purest form. It represents an evolution, a progression from the early stages where I merely focused on making my existence known. It doesn’t matter whether my presence is viewed positively or negatively; the goal is to challenge the rule., I fight the rules I don’t like from within the system.
Fair.xyz: You mentioned working with Virgil Abloh and the impact it had on your career. Could you share that experience?
Zoow: Collaborating with Virgil Abloh was an unexpected and incredible opportunity. He possesses a genuine appreciation for graffiti artists and a deep understanding of our culture. One day, he contacted me with a proposition to vandalise a Nike billboard. He documented the entire process and shared it on his Instagram, which opened numerous doors for me. I owe him a great deal of gratitude, as it was truly life-changing.
Fair.xyz: Your latest endeavour involves NFTs. Could you shed some light on this project and its significance?
Zoow: Indeed, I’m currently involved in an innovative NFT project – Drip-Lab. It’s an exciting extension of my art career, enabling me to offer tangible benefits to those who have supported me from the start. It’s starting with my first Open Edition. With the NFT ownership, people can acquire something genuine. In this case, it’s a phygital collection that will feature a thermo-reactive ‘Writer’s Jacket’ produced by Olmetex, but we’re planning to expand into various realms like toys and objects. It’s an opportunity to push my art in an innovative and meaningful way thanks to the support of Another-1.
Fair.xyz: What then, does the future hold for you professionally, creativity and I guess digitally?
Zoow: The future is a realm of infinite possibilities, both professionally and creatively. I envision myself pushing the boundaries even further, constantly challenging the norms and evolving as an artist. Embracing the digital realm has opened new avenues for exploration and innovation. With the NFT project, I’m venturing into uncharted territories, merging art and technology to create a tangible and authentic experience for my audience. I see endless potential in the digital space, where I can expand my artistic vision across various platforms. The digital landscape provides a vast canvas for me to leave my mark and connect with a global audience that shares my passion for unconventional art forms.
